Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL) was founded on August 11th, 1973 and currently has a body of more than 20,000 students, as well as a total of 1,800 teachers and researchers. NOVA is a decentralized University, which means that its Faculties and Institutes enjoy a high degree of autonomy.
NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) is the School of Information Management of UNL and was created in 1989 as a response to the shortage of senior staff specialized in information management, and to the growing need for the use of new information technologies. Today, NOVA IMS provides high level education to more than 1,700 students, including those in undergraduate, postgraduate and masters degrees.


NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab is a network of people and organizations, driven by NOVA IMS, that represents the main actors in the construction of smart cities and territories. These collaborate in the development of a set of activities that aim to promote the creation and transfer of applied knowledge in the context of urban intelligence, with an aim to actively contribute to the construction of smart and sustainable cities and territories.

Based on information management and data science and involving local administration, academia and industry, it is our ambition to actively contribute towards the goal of achieving compliance with SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities of the United Nations, in particular to guarantee to those who live, work or visit cities sustainability, inclusion, resilience and security in the multiple dimensions of urban intelligence, with emphasis on the response to the climate emergency, the promotion of decarbonisation and energy transition in an evolution towards a circular economy.

For PLANO-A, NOVA Cidade Urban Analytics Lab, of NOVA IMS, will lead the development of descriptive, predictive and prescriptive models, within the context of urban intelligence and the development of participative models, for the adoption of new behaviors, taking advantage of the growing capacity for the collection, storage and processing of large amounts of data of multiple formats and origins (Big Data) integrated within analytic platforms of urban intelligence.
